New pages this morning. Ilsa finally unrolls the chart that shows a coastline forty years before it exists. I have been waiting nine chapters to write that sentence.

Worked on my website today. No writing!

Cut 1,200 words of ship description tonight. The chapter got faster and lonelier at the same time, which is exactly what the ship needed.

Six scenes into act two. I have started measuring distance in scenes, the way sailors measure it in days without land.

Revision note: the archivist cannot open the vault in chapter two. If she gets what she wants that early, the middle of the book has nothing left to withhold.

Drafted the harbor chapter three times today. The map keeps trying to become the narrator, and I keep reminding it that maps do not get a point of view. It is winning.
